Fuel questions, straight answers

What does a fuel stabilizer actually do?

Gasoline starts to oxidise within weeks of leaving the pump: light compounds evaporate, heavier ones turn to gum and varnish that coat carburetors and injectors. A stabilizer bonds with the fuel and interrupts that chemistry, so the tank you park in autumn still holds usable, pourable fuel in spring.

How much do I pour per gallon?

Every bottle on this shelf prints its own measure on the label, and most sizes have a dosing chamber or marked cap. The exact ratio also sits in the listing each red button opens — check it for the bottle in your hand rather than guessing from memory.

How long can fuel sit once treated?

Long enough to cross an off-season comfortably — the Storage line is formulated for month after month of sitting, and the label on each bottle states the period it stands behind. Untreated fuel, for comparison, can start degrading in a matter of weeks.

Can I pour in too much?

The formulas are forgiving — a generous pour is not a problem for the engine. Stick near the label rate anyway: extra stabilizer past the recommended dose protects no better, it just empties the bottle faster.

Stabilizer or fuel-system cleaner — which one do I need?

They answer different mornings. A stabilizer protects fuel that is about to sit; a cleaner (our In-Season and Fast Fix bottles) rescues a system that already ran on neglected fuel. If the machine is headed for the corner of the garage — stabilize. If it came out of the corner grumpy — clean.

Which bottle is mine?

Answer one question: what is the engine doing next month? Sleeping — Storage. Floating — 360 Marine. Compression-fired — the diesel shelf. Working weekly — In-Season. Refusing to start at all — the small-engine rescue aisle. The picker further up this page walks the same logic.

What owners say after the winter

Been using STA-BIL for years now. This additive keeps my gasoline fresh for up to 2 years and it it works in my mowers, snow blower with no problems of gunking up the carburetor after storage. Keep you fuel fresh with these super high gas prices.

STA-BIL Storage Fuel Stabilizer, 10 oz

I do alot of pressure washing and I need my equipment to work when called upon so after every use I squirt a shot of STA-BIL. It cleans and lubricates your pump. Worth the price to keep a thousand dollar pressure washer happy!!

STA-BIL Pump Protector, 4 oz

Excellent engine starter fluid for 2 and 4 cycle engines, as well as diesels. Very expensive and gets depleted very quickly. Some say avoid using with 2-cycle engines as lacks lubricant.

STA-BIL (22004-6PK) Starting Fluid - Prolongs Starter Life - Upper Cylinder Lube - For Gasoline And Diesel Engines - Guaranteed Faster Starts Down to -65°F, 11 oz.

I was ready to buy a new lawn mower because mine was 10 years old and it started dying or so I thought. It would start for 2 seconds then stop and I thought that was it and then I did a little research and that's how I got this. I was very skeptical about it, but it worked like magic! Just a couple of spritz and it worked again. Definitely give this product a try if you have a dying mower that won't start.

It's ok, maybe better it's then just using the new WD40. Won't know how it holds up long term for awhile. If I see rust in the cylinder(s) in six months I'll come back and reduce stars

STA-BIL (22001 Fogging Oil - Stops Corrosion in Stored Engines - Lubricates and Protects Cylinders - Coats Internal Engine Components - for All 2 and 4 Cycle Engines, 12 oz.

Great product ! I used it to fog the cylinders of my Fiat Palio before I started my car after it had been sitting for one & a half year. I did it with confidence knowing I would not damage the cylinder or pistons which could have had an otherwise expensive repair.

Why the red bottle exists

A shelf organised like an engine’s year

Every machine in your life spends most of its life waiting: the mower between Saturdays, the boat between summers, the generator between storms. Fuel does not wait well — it oxidizes, gums carburetors, pulls water and quietly disarms the engine it sits in. Our whole catalogue exists to beat that clock.

The red Storage bottle started it; the shelf grew to follow the engine's year. 360 Marine guards tanks that float, the diesel line keeps work fuel working, In-Season cleans systems that never rest, and the small-engine aisle wakes up the machines that sat anyway. Different bottles, one promise: when you reach for the cord, the engine answers.

Across the catalogue right now: 42 bottles and kits in six lines, 39 of them carrying a live price on their listing, backed by 358,478 owner ratings that average 4.78 out of five. Every number on this page is read from those listings — when they move, the shelf moves with them.
